Disability-Focused City Council Candidate Forum
This July, WACDA was proud to host a Seattle City Council candidate forum focused on disability issues and priorities in our community. We invited all candidates for the D2, D8, and D9 races. The event was organized in coordination with a coalition of local disability organizations, along with our national sponsor, the American Association of People with Disabilities.

How Seattle City Council candidates would tackle disability rights
“Disability is always an afterthought,” said Isabelle Spence, paralegal at Washington Civil & Disability Advocate. “People in positions of power do not tend to think of the disability community and build in accessibility to start with. And then they end up having to build it in on the back end if they do at all.”

City Council Candidates Gather For Disability Advocacy
Nine Seattle city council candidates appeared at the Seattle City Council Candidate Forum on July 14 at El Centro de la Raza in Beacon Hill. Organized by the non-profit Washington Civil & Disability Advocate (WACDA), the public forum gave candidates the opportunity to share perspectives and policy on accessible housing, transportation, and Medicaid cuts affecting people with disabilities and their caregivers.
